The Exotic Shorthair

What is an Exotic Shorthair? I think the Cat Fanciers Association captures the essence,
"They are bred to meet the Persian standard in every way with one very special exception: the coat has a thick, dense, plush, short coat. The Exotic coat is unique to the breed and gives them a soft, rounded, teddy bear look. Their wonderful coat requires much less combing than a Persian’s and will not mat or tangle. Because of the ease of grooming for this special breed, Exotics are sometimes affectionately referred to as the lazy man’s Persian. "
Absolutely gorgeous. Honestly everyone that is around one will notice their unique, look. Couple that with a sweet demeanor that was bred to literally be a lap cat. They are worth the effort to find one!

Exotic Shorthairs and Persians

I regularly cross Persians with Exotic Shorthairs. This is completely endorsed by CFA after all Exotics are the shorthaired version of a Persian in every sense of their being. The cross of the Persian on an Exotic keeps the Plush wonderful coat of a good Exotic. So it does cause some excitement as kittens arrive from this cross. 50% Persian and 50% Exotic. Here is the thing coat length can not be established until they are roughly 4 1/2 weeks old. Up till that point their coat lengths are similar. So when you are waiting for that kitten to arrive be aware that though I can know color and gender coat length is a mystery for a month or so.

Persian Kitten and the litter box!

Your kitten is a baby and will be best adjusted by confining her to a smaller area close to her litter box for several days. I like to position the box where it ultimately will reside in the household. The rule for the number of litter boxes required is 1.5 litter boxes per cat, with at least 1 litter box per floor of your home. Round up if in doubt. Many single cats can get by with 1 litter box, multiple cats may change this.

I like to keep all rugs clear of the area. Later a no track mat may be introduced to help litter tracking. Many cats do not like covered litter boxes, some cats get hooked on certain litter types. I personally love hard clumping litter and I loved our automatic cleaning litter box when we had 1 cat. They are not practical for multiple cat households.

Cats are super easy so if you keep their litter box clean they tend to be fastidious and easy house mates. Altered pets male or female rarely spray unless they are suffering from a medical issue. Potty issues, especially inappropriate urinating should be quickly brought to the vet clinic for a health check.

Not all potty issues are health related. Cats can retaliate their unhappy situation by inappropriate potty behavior. Stress can create an occasional issue, like a move, new kitten or puppy, or baby, vacation etc. I love the pheromone collars and sprays available when a cat is stressed. They can really help.

shipping and payments

Come and pick up your kitten there are no additional fees.

I can help organize kitten deliveries. I can fly kittens in cargo and can coordinate this flight. I will need to know your nearest major airport, we will be looking for direct flights. This cost is expressly paid by the buyer and will include a crate , vet health certificate, delivery fee to airport, and the actual airline ticket. Figure $300 - $400. You pay exactly our costs.

You are also welcome to consider flying into SLC or Boise and taking your kitten back under your airline seat, I use a service that will meet you at an airport for a fee, or you are welcome to visit and meet the parents. There are also couriers who will make the flight for expenses and a fee.

I accept personal checks only for deposits, or when made 3 weeks in advance. My preferred avenue is cash or postal money orders, which are guaranteed by the government. They are very economical to purchase. I no longer accept paypal.

Payments will be expected when kittens are purchased, flown kittens will be paid in full 10 days prior to flight. Expenses will be collected prior to flying.

TWO... to do or not that's the question...

ABSOLUTELY! Litter mates are a wonderful idea in kittens. They interact, cavort, sleep, and groom one another. They grow up with a pal, but often pick their own special people to love from the household, usually not the same one. It is not always as smooth a transition adding in a 2nd cat or kitten for adult cats. It can take time, there are some really good tools including pheromone collars try Nurture Collar, and diffusers that de stress called feliway. available at your veterinarian. I am a big fan of selling 2 kittens for 1 home.

Male or Female

It is often thought that a female is a better pet than a male cat. This I believe is linked to our childhood and some old wives tales about spraying Tom Cats. It is a relatively new development that we care for our cats like cherished members of the household. In the past people allowed feral cats, intact males and females, to roam about unvaccinated, and unwormed. This made a population of howling, and territory marking cats, preparing for the next litter of kittens located in the wood pile. It was mostly an awful situation. A lot of the blame was placed on the poor Tom Cat. He indeed fought and scrapped howled and peed, all in the name of LOVE.
So I am here to tell you when you neuter your male kitten, he will indeed Love he will love YOU! The territorial marking is driven from the testosterone. He wont think of spraying. Intact female cats are not a lot more fun, with their howling and silly desperation and litter after litter of unhomed kittens. However spay them and they concentrate on their lovely people.
Males are usually a little bigger, but after that the individual cats personality takes over. Some are complacent, some active, some quiet, but most all are interested in you and what interesting things you are doing today.

Prices vary

Prices vary on quality. I will price kittens individually when available. Ball Park.... $750 to $3600 Pet kittens are considerably less than show kittens. Show kittens are sold only to homes that are planning on showing CFA.

PRICING/PAYMENT. We are requiring a nonrefundable $100
deposit plus 3% processing fee ($103.00) to reserve one of our kittens, I do accept pay pal for the total amount but I add the 3% pay pal, fee so cash is always preferred.

Our kittens tend to sell quite quickly, so placing a deposit
and reserving your Persian or Exotic Shorthair kitten is the quickest way toget your kitten reserved before anyone elsecomes along to buy it. PLEASE make sure you want this kitten, as the deposit is
nonrefundable in any circumstance. I do
not accept deposits until an actual kitten is available.

Full purchase price of our kittens without breeding rights is
$750 to $1000 depending on the kitten color and quality.

Breeding rights and papers pricing is dependent on the
kitten purchased..Figure between $1750 and $3500
